Thich Nhat Hanh is in Hong Kong this week and I had the pleasure of hearing him speak and to sit with him after his talk. The talk was packed and discussed mindful breathing / belly breathing (and how breath relates to emotion). He also spoke of relationship between father and son which was particularly relevant for me as I hope to see my father later this week in Taiwan. There were at around a thousand people at the event. Some of his talks are available online here (http://www.deerpark.libsyn.com/) and (http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t73626.html). We had a short discussion on the role of media and technology in communicating inner peace. His book, Old Path, White Clouds, is being made into a Hollywood film. In person, he is tremendously inspirational.
The workshop is hosted by the Religion and Spiritual Center at the Hong Kong Institute of Education (http://www.ied.edu.hk/crse/index.htm) and I had an opportunity to talk with the Center Head, Wong Ping Ho after the lunch. I also was able to meet Sik Hin Hung of the Buddhist Center at Hong Kong University. There are a lot of great resources here in Hong Kong. Thich Nhat Hanh's organization is looking to establish a monistary and mindfulness center in Hong Kong which would be a welcome addition!
