I was surprised earlier this week when my son Orson, on the way to his school in the morning, commented that "If there are sad people then there must be angry people." What an amazing statement for a three year old to make I thought to myself. My older son also at the age of three asked "why is water wet" which also left me quiet for a few minutes before coming up with an answer (we talked about water, ice, and steam). Any parent can tell you that there is often more to learn from children is there is to teach them. Getting them to speak there mind is also helpful in the parental learning process. My children, for example, can easily sense when I feel anger and are not afraid to tell me so.
As an aside, a few weeks ago, I had lunch with my daughter and her nanny. The cheese sandwich that we ate had a bit of a funny taste to it which I dismissed to the cheese and ate the whole thing without much incident at the time. My daughter took a bite and commented that the bread tasted funny which was confirmed by her nanny. Upon realizing this, it was interesting that my body started to "dry hurl" and went to the bathroom laughing along the way. It was an interesting experience how my mind initially wouldn't let my body respond, but when it got confirmation my body would act. I ended up laughing on the way to the bathroom. The body never lies! Listen to what your kids say!
