A group of friends and I are starting a "Master Cleanse" today. For the next 10 days, we are essentially fasting on lemonade (http://www.geocities.co.jp/Beautycare-Venus/2032/english/master_cleanser.html). It should be an interesting experience. There is a lot of controversy over the effectiveness of the approach (http://blog.healthtalk.com/zimney/master-cleanse-diet-master-scam/) but most people that have tried it seem to see it as a positive experience (there are a few videos on YouTube and many other blogs) including my friends Tanya (who is the friend that got the group of friends together), Bobsy, and Maurizio.
For me, it is an investigation into my relationship with food. There have been a lot of books, documentaries, and films about food (e.g., Supersize Me, Fast Food Nation, a great video here - http://pods.zaadz.com/realizing_health/discussions/view/96153). My eating habits are also fairly erratic which affects my digestion. I often miss lunch and I’m also a sucker for buffets (ever read the Dr. Seuss book about the goldfish? That’s me at a buffet). I’ve also discovered some emotional attachments related to chocolate, ice cream, and gnocchi). I imagine as the days progress, I will be facing cravings, desire, etc. I am sure it will be an interesting experience. Last year, my mom talked me into doing a liver cleanse (http://www.curezone.com/cleanse/liver/). The year before, my sister talked me into trying Panchakarma for 10 days in New Delhi (http://www.drraju.com/). The Panchakarma was an amazing experience that left my digestive system running like clockwork. Always good to develop a better relationship with and understanding of the body!
